If you only see one MIDI port, select ‘Configuration’ > ‘New Configuration’ and name the new configuration ‘HUI’. If using a Mac, please open the ‘Audio MIDI Setup’ application on your Mac, select ‘Window’ > ‘Show MIDI Studio’ and in the ‘MIDI Studio’ window, ensure the Launch Control XL is showing two MIDI ports - ‘Launch Control XL’ and ‘HUI’ as shown below:

Once you’ve installed the firmware update please disconnect and reconnect the Launch Control XL from your computer.

To install this, all you need to do is download the appropriate installer for your operating system, connect your LaunchControl to your computer via USB, run the firmware updater and follow the on-screen instructions. This is available from the Launch Control XL downloads page. To use your LaunchControl XL as a HUI control surface, you need to install the latest firmware version. You will need to do this when you first load a session, when you bank tracks (9-16, 17-24 etc.), or when you change from pan to send a, send b etc. To correct this you may need to turn the control from one end to the other in order to reset the range. This is great if you want to make a small adjustment but you may find you hit the end of the pot’s physical travel before the virtual control on-screen. The pan and send controls don’t have pot pick-up, they move immediately from whatever position they are in. In order to make these work we ‘emulate’ the operation of the encoders in firmware. The Launch Control XL has pots rather than encoders which have an absolute position. HUI is designed to work with encoders for pan and send controls. The controls still work relatively to turn pans left and right.

Not sure if the code is correct for the LED's and that's my problem, or if the problem is the script statements in the mapping. I did create a custom device file for it and then mapped to that. It's working well enough for me so I stopped poking at it. If I send raw MIDI commands to the unit I can change their colours but through scripting I've had trouble making all the colours work. I have one and fiddled with it enough to get it working but also struggled with the LED's. If we chat here then maybe others can learn or chime in with their suggestions.

The skin is still very much a work-in-progress but I will release it here when it's a bit more usable. I have a few decks set aside for music for home goal, away goal, home penalty, away penalty, then general decks for general music. I'm using the unit in VDJ with an eight-deck skin for use at hockey games. But that may change if I get time and the bug again. It's not that important to me - I can see PFL on one set of LED's and the other group is green for playing, red for stopped on a cue point, and off otherwise. My limitation with the LED's is either in the 'color note' tags or the way my mapping/script was trying to interact. The other templates cause the buttons, knobs and faders to send different MIDI notes/messages. The Launch Control XL unit has multiple templates - the device file I posted only deals with user template #1.
